Liberalism flatters the egoReader comment on item: Conservatism's Hidden History Submitted by Michael S (United States), Aug 7, 2018 at 01:14 John Locke (1632-1704)... Among other things, Locke asserts that, (1) prior to the establishment of government, men exist in a "state of nature," in which (2) "all men are naturally in a state of perfect freedom,.." We need only look to the cannibal cultures of Fiji and the New Hebrides, to witness "perfect freedom". Hmm... not "perfect freedom", I imagine, for the ones being eaten. In the final analysis, Liberalism was founded on the principle that I, Michael S., have perfect understanding. Conservatism is founded on the principle that I might be wrong, and should look to those who've gone before for guidance. I see why there seems to be a conflict between the two philosophies.
