"The Virtue of Nationalism" by Yoram HazonyReader comment on item: Conservatism's Hidden History Submitted by Robert (United States), Sep 10, 2018 at 11:23 Dear Daniel Pipes, One of the Authors of the article you cite has just came with his book, "The Virtue of Nationalism." To the extent that the book supports Nationalism, especially against the European Union, and other types of Internationalism, I suspect the author is consistent with your views on the "Civilizationalist" parties of Europe. But I've only read a review of this book (see below). My educated guess is that the authors positive view of Nationalism is founded on a mistaken analysis of American, British, and European history. To begin with, the word "virtue" reminds me of Robespierre's views at the conclusion of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution right before he lost his head to the Guillotine. Furthermore, the author focus on Locke as the primary authority on the issue of Nationalism is particularly mistaken, because Natural Rights derive from Aristotle who was re-discovered during the later Middle Ages. Furthermore, the Protestant Reformation put an end to the Roman Catholic Church and Napoleon subsequently destroyed its remnant, the Holy Roman Empire (of the German Nation). However, I'm about to purchase the book to see If my anticipation of these errors are correct. The Book is "The Virtue of Nationalism" by Yoram Hazony.
