No, your Comments Are SkewedReader comment on item: Conservatism's Hidden History Submitted by Dennis Middlebrooks (United States), Aug 9, 2018 at 15:33 The nearly half of the population that believes in Young Earth Creationism is overwhelmingly evangelical Christian, with some Orthodox Jews and Muslims. This is an predominantly ultra-conservative, anti-liberal, anti-secular group. As for the Founders, you might want to account for the fact that the harshest critics of the Constitution and men like Jefferson, Washington, Paine and Franklin were leading members of the Christian clergy, who regarded them as heretics. The notion that the Puritans and other 17th Century immigrant groups provided the foundation of our nation is pure hogwash. They would have been appalled by the Declaration of Independence (with its references to the Deist "Nature's God") as well as the godless Constitution with its First Amendment, no religious test for public office, and no reference to Christianity anywhere in the text. As for my list of Judeo-Christian attributes, you focused on hereditary monarchs and conveniently ignored the rest, like slavery and genocide. I don't blame you! As for hereditary monarchs, the fact that they are found outside of Judeo-Christian societies in no way negates the fact that until the late 18th Century that was the predominant form of government in the Christian world, as well as in Ancient Judea (along with slavery, genocide and the oppression of women). As for the Holocaust, it was carried out by Germany, a nation that was half Catholic and half Lutheran, with the eager cooperation of conquered populations that were overwhelmingly Catholic and Eastern Orthodox. Indeed, right up until April, 1945, Catholic and Lutheran churches in Germany held celebratory masses in honor of Hitler's birthday. German soldiers swore an oath to Hitler "bei Gott" and had the words "Gott Mit Uns" emblazoned on their uniform belts. Try to be less intellectually dishonest next time with your selective, revisionist claptrap.
