Liberalism is doomed to failureReader comment on item: Conservatism's Hidden History Submitted by Michael S (United States), Aug 21, 2018 at 21:38 "liberals became intellectual hostages to the belief that faith in force needs to be institutionalized in the State, if the world is to be held together." I agree, Martin. Although you say the relationship "is complicated" to most readers, it's rather simple to me. I believe the world is held together by the word of God, with or (nearly always) without the help of the state. This is somewhat akin to Adam Smith's belief in the "Invisible Hand" that guides economic matters It's about as "conservative" an idea as one can have. Liberals, on the other hand, seem to believe the world is held together by human reason -- ignoring the fact that it held together for some 13.7 billion years before they existed. Being based on such an untenable premise, of course liberalism (as well as the atheism that de facto underpins it) is doomed to failure.
