If it bleeds it leadsReader comment on item: Romney Stumbles on Foreign Policy Submitted by MikeKu (United States), Oct 23, 2012 at 06:11 If it bleeds it leads and that is exactly why the Middle East was mentioned so often in this debate. The region is about as messed up as it can get and there are no solutions on the horizon. Even Mohammed whose picture we cannot show can't solve this problem primarily because it is a problem caused by his followers. The President appointed himself well coming close to stating that an attack on Israel is an attack on the US. In Syria we have to be cautious for who knows who is behind the insurgency; it could well be the Moslem Brotherhood which would spell disaster for that country as it may soon in Egypt. We are dealing with a people whose tolerance for free speech, freedom of religion, freedom of press, does not exist and under Islam will probably never exist. That is the problem that the Western world faces. Romney does not have any new solutions or any solutions. He backed off from war, smart move after his predecessor Bush got us into two. He does not seem to understand that while a strong defense is essential, what happens when there is nothing to defend and that is why we need better education, better infrastructure, a better economy. A cut in US defense will not weaken us but will certainly help our financial situation. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. How many are aware that the Congo was the site of the worst humanitarian disaster in the recent past? That the Arab-Israeli conflict is only the 49th most bloody post-WWII conflict has hardly diminished it's high profile. Etc. Reader comments (56) on this item
