Yes, I agree---BUTReader comment on item: Romney Stumbles on Foreign Policy Submitted by stanley b (United States), Oct 23, 2012 at 18:49 Of course I was jumping out of my chair during every opportunity that you mentioned where major points could have been made, Romney made a very calculated decision to stay as neutral as possible, and as some have said, to 'hug' Obama to show voters that he is not at all the cruel reckless warmonger that the O campaign peddles, and it was effective in that he did not offer a recipient of O's crude and rude attacks. Much like Ryan did to Biden, the same strategy applied. Also, this allows the focus to remain on the economy where Romney has a clear advantage. Sad to be so cynical but they have to think the way the electorate does, and the vast majority have a very fleeting interest, let alone understanding, in foreign policy. That said, while it may have been effective with the target audience (presumably there are still undecideds) and made him seem big picture presidential while O looked like the desperate jabbing challenger, it was very truly frustrating for anyone in the know to watch. We shall see if his strategy pans out, Unfortunately, it is a bet made with very large stakes. It was interesting though to see him able to maneuver so deftly and differently in each debate.
