Aggressive Islam

Dear Mr. Pipes,

You failed to mention Al' Ma'idah 5:51 -
"O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your friends and protectors; They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust."

You offer up "variation" between aggressive and mild Islam, when in reality it is a dichotomy that is undeniably found in their own so called, holy book. With this dichotomy in the Qur'an also comes the dichotomy within the Muslim world. And while your remedy may solve the problem among mild Muslims, a significant number of aggressive Muslims will undoubtedly continue to operate within the context of the aggressive nature of Islam which the Qur'an endorses.
