alliancesReader comment on item: Siege in Sydney Submitted by Mohammed Waza Khiddif Id'ullah (Australia), Jan 3, 2015 at 03:52 "BTW, about your name -- Is it a real name?" I guess it could be, it sounds arabic enough. "It makes me think of the folk song, "Mairzy doats and dozy doats and liddle lamzy divey. A kiddley divey too, wouldn't you? ". Say it to yourself a few times. "You're a subtle fellow, it seems, so maybe you have a comical message here." Sadly, it's not a comical message. Though it is a laughable situation. "That lane along the station -- it was all of 5 feet wide, and along a wooden fence along the south side of the station, as I recall. That was over 40 years ago; things change." Well it must still be there - inner suburban streets do not change. Sydney's CBD certainly has changed massively since the 70's. Take a cruise through it (and Marrickville) on StreetView in GoogleEarth. ".I've often dreamed of living in Sydney again; but those things HAVE changed, to be sure. Back in the '60s, they used to pay Americans to emigrate to there; now that I'M in my '60s, they don't seem to old farts of any nationality to come. Still, it might happen some day. My son-in-law is a NZ citizen." That is fortunate then. NZ citizens can live and work freely in Australia and not be noticed. Except when they open their mouths and swap around their a's, e's and i's. It's almost like they are another state of Australia - though they can be deported if they're naughty. "...There are four major players in the area: Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel; and there are two main outside actors: the US, Russia and China...." I understand there are political alliances in OPEC and the OIC - but they do not hold true and fast - with agreements shifting all the time amongst many fair weather friends. What underlies them all are their islamic populaces and their grievances brought about being told they are the best of humanity - yet on the whole , live as the worst. And the numbers of people willing to cause mass carnage , even wanting to die to bring it about and at the same time thinking they are getting massive a massive nod of approval from mo/allah. No doubt as Iranian self-styled cleric - Man Monis - the Sydney siege hostage taker , did. Russians have no love for the Chinese but are prepared to cozy up to them for expediency's' sake.
