The Islamic literary sourcesReader comment on item: Siege in Sydney Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Feb 4, 2015 at 08:37 MS you wrote You seem to have an Islamic audience in mind, in posting this, Not really I'm interested in the history of early Islam and by the way most Muslim posters seem to be Pakistanis and Indian Muslims that have zero command of Arabic and their arguments fall apart very fast just read my little chat with Nasr. He has the audacity to tell us that he knows what the Qur'an really says when he cannot read Arabic as I suspect that most non-Muslims (such as I) cannot fathom the depth of it. And that is my point and most Muslim posters cannot read their Islamic literary sources in Arabic so you are in good company but this does not stop them from making fools of themselves I did a lookup: You have to be careful when quoting anything in the Islamic historical tradition and by the way Western scholarship proved that there is nothing historical about Muhammad's biography and it is no more than another way of explaining what the opaque revelation called the Qur'an is saying! PS. I see that you and I are yet again engaged in presenting opposite sides of a moralistic debate: Modern Moralistic Atheism (your side) vs. Traditional Realism (as I would call it -- my side). Not really the study of history is about explaining "what really happened" and holy books are no more than historical literary relics that should be subjected to the tools of the historical method and literary criticism and most of the time "what really happened" might not help the believer but again this is what German historians call "Salvation history" or pious fiction but pious fiction is not history That's what it really is, regardless of what it's called. It's a debate that tends to raise the fur in people, without their realizing it. I hope we can keep it cool. Hindus have a wonderful saying: Truth always prevails which means if I have a follower of a religion trying to BS his way then he will be exposed so if I have a Muslim who says that Islam is the religion of all of humanity I will check such claim in the Qur'an and tell him what the Qur'an says and expose him as either ignorant or a liar and by the way the Qur'an says that Islam is really the religion of the Arabs only BTW. I admire you for sticking your neck out concerning "insulting the Profit" (oops -- sp.?), I do not insult anyone I only tell the readers what the Islamic literary sources tell us about him and it is not very pretty and if Muslims do not like it then they can destroy their literary sources and good riddance while all these fatwas and murders are going around. That said, we need to do what we can to not be seen as wrongdoers by sane people. Then what would help is to tell Muslims to get rid of their literary sources because we kuffar can read them in Arabic Crossing the profanity line probably doesn't help us. Profanity is calling the Jews pigs and monkeys and calling non Muslims: Unclean that is what profanity is all about Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
