All in you mind... and mine... but not, it seems, in Man MonisReader comment on item: Siege in Sydney Submitted by Michael S (United States), Feb 4, 2015 at 00:49 Hi, Waza I'll just jump into the middle of your very good spiel: "". We also know that He (or a "Super-wise It???") is just; Using the pronoun 'It' is more appropriate as the source of everything has no gender. Gender came after." Not really. "It" implies lack of life, and lack of wisdom. The "Big Bang" obviously came from both -- certainly from a wisdom greater than our own, since we've taken so long to even get our bearings in this thing. "He" is the proper "genderless" pronoun for living things. It always was, until women's libbers set about trying to confuse things.
Waz, you're a gift from heaven. Yes -- what you say seems true. I am not a physicist; just a lowly retired chemist; but we experience things like this in chemistry as well. Most students are taught, for instance, about atoms being made up of extremely tiny nuclei, "orbited" (though we can't precisely describe their motion) by even tinier electrons. Those are atoms in even dense, "solid" objects such as diamonds. The reality is that the "solid" diamond is nearly all space, but most students come into college (and many leave it) thinking of matter as a space-filling, solid substance. What you are describing is an even more detailed picture, wherein even the electrons and nuclei are not particles as we imagine them but, as you say, "holograms" of sorts: mathematical constructs (with a very strange 11-dimensional math, at that) whose only "substance" is... ...in our minds? This is the stuff of The Matrix and beyond, but it isn't science fiction; it's science, our very best science. Yes, we actually LIVE in our minds; and I'm not talking about a mass of protoplasm entrapped in our skulls. Neither do we live, as the Hindu gurus say, in a world of illusion: This "holographic" reality is very real, just as real as a clonk on the head; and what's more, there is no reason to believe that it is subjective or "imaginary". You and I live in the same world, and we both see pretty much the same things. Circular Quay has an opera house near it, which was still a-building when I was last there; but you can go there and get on the ferry to the eastern suburbs. When I rode the North Harbor ferry back then, I saw a shoreline that had changed little since Captain Cook saw it, nearly 200 years before me. This is a shared reality; but I experience it in my mind and you experience it in yours. It existed before we were born, and it will exist, as far as we can see, forever. Yes, there is life after death; and our "minds" are far bigger than our brains. Yes, this is described in John 1; and thank you for noticing.
Yeah, Monis had an excuse: he was nuttier than a fruitcake. It's the rest of us, who are sane, who ought to be able to deal with such people. That's where the break-down has happened. Again, it's a pleasure to talk with you. Shalom shalom :-) Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
