Katoomba? Lithgow? Guadalcanal?

Reader comment on item: Siege in Sydney
in response to reader comment: OK, 50 years overly generous

Hi, Waz

"It would not take much for an apocalypse to happen. 7+billion people , nuclear arsenals, climate change, environmental degradation, radiation residues at various points around the planet , species extinction, blah, blah, blah. And on top of that 1.5 billion muslims - with 10% of them fanatics and being quite willing and motivated by enough hate to bring total destruction on the West (and therefore the rest of the world) in order to bring about their 'caliphate'."

You're right. All we need now is zombies, Godzilla and the Blob that ate Cleveland. Not only do we have over 17,000 nukes pointed at one another, but the American rocketeers get stoned on drugs to fight off boredom. People just prefer to imagine that the "unthinkable" will never happen, because they don't want it to happen. It will, though. Do you know that in the 1950s, American commanders in the field had full authority over their nukes? No failsafe, no nothing. And our submarine missile crews routinely drill for launches, not knowing whether or not thecircuits are live. I'm glad that Army psychiatrist in Texas that went berzerk for Allah a couple of years back wasn't a submariner.

"So far, they do not have the means - and it is hard to see how they ever could. Russia despises them, we despise them , as do the Chinese and Indians"

The Iranians have thousands of centrifuges that work, despite Stuxnet. These are not amateurs. They will get the bomb, if we let them.

"So, how will you prepare for a nuclear war in ten years? " I'd move inland away from population centres.

The Murray Valley? Strzelecki Creek? Alice Springs? I once heard a story that there was a professor, before WWII. Everyone knew a big war was coming, so he researched what he reckoned would be the safest place on earth. Then he moved there -- to Guadalcanal.

Americans gave up preparing for nuclear war in the 1960s. I think that when an air raid siren went off in Kansas City, right at the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis, and nobody paid any attention to it, our Civil Defense planners collectively threw their arms into the air. You can't plan for nuclear war; but we all have to plan for death. When you go on that trip, you need to make sure you have your spiritual keys in your pocket. Matthew 5 is my favorite.

"You say it's good that I live near the mountains?" I never said that . I had no idea you live near mountains. But that does sound like a good idea.

We live under the Cascades, about an hour and a half from the Pacific Crest. It's gorgeous here, among Douglas firs and Ponderosa pines. Nonetheless, God will judge my country and yours. I'm retired. Who will cash my social security checks when money becomes worthless. For that matter, do you suppose mail trucks will be coming here to deliver such checks? Or medicines for the elderly? Will I suddenly become a young man again, and become a logger or fisherman? There's only one safe place to be, when these things come about: walking in God's plan, doing His work.

"Some will look for God, but won't find him;" probably looking in the wrong place.

Exactly. All that said, yes, I expect the Big Battle in about ten years. Many people have been wrong about this sort of thing, of course, but it would just about take a miracle for it not to happen this time around..

I've just never seen so many absolute lunatics in positions of power. I used to think Erdogan had an uncanny resemblance to Hitler, but I assumed he's be out of office by now. He isn't; and he and his PM are tweaking the Turkish constitution to keep his increasingly dictatorial regime in power indefinitely. Bashir rules in Sudan, Libya Dawn & friends in Libya and the Ayatollah in Iran. None of the above are sane, and those four countries comprise all the nations mentioned in Ezekiel 38-39. ISIS and friends, meanwhile, are preparing the way, like frog-demons on the Euphrates. At any rate, once Erdogan or his successor attacks Israel, you can mark your calendar -- seven years, the last half of which will be simply awful for the righteous. Then judgment.
