Why an Israeli "victory" won't bring peace

Looking at the current situation, it appears that actions by terror groups, Hamas or Hizbollah, if they hit targets in major Israeli cities, would spark wars that Israel does not want, due to political costs and loss of lives and materiel; the only current Israeli alternative appears to be to withdraw civilians from the borders. If the Palestinian authority admitted defeat today, it would only stimulate these and other terror groups to increase their activity, and some Muslim nations would likely support them. Only a general peace, enforced by the Israelis and the Arab nations in the area, will have any hope, in my view, of bringing Israel the result it desires.
