Thank you for this wonderful expose and book review. I've read other books by Rodney Stark and am glad to see his work getting some attention. The Judeo-Christian ethic, first and foremost, communicates that people are valuable because they are created in the image of God. This means that they don't have to prove their value over and over by acquiring wealth, power, or by being successful. This is what gave Western Civilization the freedom to explore, invent, and experiment. Thanks again for your good work! It's an example of this freedom of the mind.
