Very good question. I believe it must have been influenced as you shall see.

I happen to believe that history is about continuity and not about discontinuity, as Muslims claims. As for the word Copt I would rather use Egyptian. The people of Egypt never called themselves prior to the Arab invasion, Copts. They called themselves in the Egyptian language: 'EnrmenKemi (the people of the black land) and called their country KMT (notice that there were no vowels in the older scripts of the Egyptian language) They never called their country Masr either. However, most likely it was KeMeT. In the late stages of the language there was decay of the last letter T and it is gone and it is Kemi. Copts and Aqbat and Masr are creations by the Muslim invaders of Egypt.

Now, remember that old civilizations are never conjured away and indeed the Egyptian form of Christianity, the Copts if you wish, still use the Egyptian language in Liturgy. So if you attend a mass in a "Coptic" Church you will be hearing the voices of ancient Egypt.

Now was the Egyptian form of Christianity influenced by the culture, language and values of Egypt prior to the introduction of Christianity in Egypt? I believe it did. There is so much to say here but I'm just going to refer you (and you can google it) check statues of the virgin Mary suckling the infant Jesus and statues of Isis suckling the infant Horus (who is really the golden/redeemer son)! You can also google Egyptian statues of Mar Guirgis slaying the dragon (Mar is an Aramaic word for Lord) and compare it with similar statues of Horus slaying a beast. Even the language was affected as an example the Greek Hades is translated in the "Coptic" Bible as Amenta Αμεντα (sorry I have to use Greek keyboard as my Coptic keyboard is not working) and Αμεντα in the old religion of Egypt really means the West or the land of the dead. Why? because the fathers of the Church were bringing to their new religion what they have known from the old religion.

Notice that the "Copts" have always been faithful to the names given by their ancestors to different parts of Egypt. Take the case of the city of Heliopolis (which a suburb of Cairo) this is a very ancient city and the name of the City in the Egyptian language is ων or ON and this is indeed what you will find in Genesis in the OT and this is a very old name and it pre-dates the invasion of Egypt by Alexander the Great. The city also was known as: Per Ra (Egyptian language) which means the House of Ra (Ra is the Egyptian Sun God) and this was translated to Greek as Heliopolis (the city of the sun). And this is what you would find also in the OT as ܒܬ ܫܡܫ (this is Aramaic) or Bet Shemesh or the house of the sun which is the translation of the Greek Heliopolis. Now enter the clueless Arabs so their clueless scholars mixed the very old name ON and the word Sun. The clueless Arabs translated it as عين شمس or 'Ayn Shams. The word 'Ayn could mean a spring of water or "the eye of" and Shams in Arabic and Shemesh in Aramaic and Hebrew means sun. However, the Arabs as usual have no clue .

You see Egypt is not unlike a palimpsest the more you dig in the more you find that the people of that great land preserved their history their own ways!
