Tovey: Matthew 27:46 and Psalm 22Reader comment on item: How Fares Western Civ? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Aug 12, 2020 at 06:28 May be I did not make myself clear. And just a reminder, I'm not a theologian but in this case I'm very familiar with the various comments of Christian theologians about the verse. I'm interested in the language of the verse and the transmission of an oral Aramaic text into a transliterated Greek text then translated to Greek which becomes "exegesis" that explains to us what it really means. I find the Arabic translation, that I provided you, to be the best in explaining what the verse really means. Lamsa's translation is very intriguing albeit interesting. Every time I read the Aramaic in the verse I can hear the Christ's own words. Why is this important? As a reader of the Qur'an (which has far more Aramaic words, sentences and grammar than the OT and NT) understanding what the text really says also means that we have to understand the Aramaic layer that was not well understood by the early Mufasereen. Here is an interesting link (sorry it is in Arabic) about a new reading of Qur'an chapter 100. It is called سورة العاديات or Surat al-'Adiyat. If you read the exegesis of the Muslim mufasereen you realize that no one seem to have an idea what the first few verses really mean. Is this misreading of the basic layer of the Qur'an called Rasm? Or is it a text written in a different language close enough to Arabic be it Syriac or Hebrew that was misread by the mufasereen? Prof Mundhir Younis منذر يونس provides a new reading for the chapter and the end result is clear that this is a Syriac Christian hymn.
