Tovey: Timeo hominem unius libri! Western Skepticism and the Islam's "do not ask questions"!Reader comment on item: How Fares Western Civ? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Aug 21, 2020 at 10:26 You wrote: >And as you and I have observed, the modern translations have actually caused issues in which western culture has a hard time attempting to promote peace when interpretations are looked at as being divisive and the lesser intellect cannot determine the best way to move forward for a lack of common understanding. Western civilization hangs in the balance on this. The basic foundation of the Western civilization and the Greek Learning is: Skepticism. And as we all know skepticism (Skepsis in Greek) means: 1. Examination. This is why Greek/western sciences are the gold standard for the past 2500 years. Compare with Islam where is says in Surat al-Ma'ida 101 and it can be rendered as: "O you who believe, DO NOT ASK (questions) about subjects which if they are made clear to you could cause you harm, and if you ask about them (subjects) when the Qur'an is being revealed, will be made clear" In other words, in Islam shut up and don't ask questions and you will find all the answers in a book that no one seems to understand and that is the Qur'an. We should wonder if this verse was "revealed" because the smart pagans of Mecca as well as the pesky Jews were making fun of Muhammad and his Allah and what is best than to tell them to shut up because Allah says so. This is why the so called Islamic civilization is gone. I'm afraid to say that with the rise of post modernism, intersectionality, no more meritocracy, criticism of the "religion of peace" is verboten etc.. we might be seeing an end to the foundation of the Western civilization and that is skepticism Last, St Thomas Aquinas wrote: Timeo hominem unius libri The wisdom of the ancients.
