Tovey: Reading old texts, myth and meaning!Reader comment on item: How Fares Western Civ? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jul 23, 2020 at 06:45 I suggest that you read Jordan Peterson's "Maps of Meaning" It is very good reading and he explains how human beings construct meaning. He connects myth and beliefs and link them to science. This is not easy reading but it is very rewarding. You do not have to believe him, but his ideas are very difficult to refute. Holy books are texts written at a point in time and the authors aim was to establish law/judgment. Religion? That must have been a later development. Last, my interest in old and "holy" text started when I read the brilliant story of Isis, Osiris, Horus and Set. You see the same out lines of the story in different cultures, written in different languages and different times. How did this happen? Well, you need to read Maps of Meaning.
