Tovey: Sunni Islam and al-MahdiReader comment on item: How Fares Western Civ? Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Jan 22, 2021 at 17:13 Tovey: There is no one answer. However, this is a link to the stance of Sunni Islam about al-Mahdi and as you shall see you will get the usual Islamic: "Yes, No, May be, and only Allahu A'lam." https://www.islamweb.net/ar/fatwa/6573/%D8%B9%D9%82%D9%8A%D8%AF%D8%A9-%D8%A3%D9%87%D9%84-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B3%D9%86%D8%A9-%D9%81%D9%8A-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%87%D8%AF%D9%8A-%D8%8C-%D9%88%D8%A3%D8%AF%D9%84%D8%A9-%D8%AE%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%AC%D9%87-%D9%88%D8%B5%D9%81%D8%AA%D9%87 However, there is a famous hadith and you will find it in one of the 6 books of al-Ahadith al-Sahiha and it is in سنان ابن ماجة or Sunan Ibn Majah's collection of Ahadith and it is: لا مهدي الا عيسى ابن مريم This can be rendered as: There is no Mahdi except 'Essa (read this as Jesus) the son of Mary. And as usual Muslims the likes of Ibn Taymiyya did not like it (he was a rabid anti-Christianity jihadist) and he tells us that it is a "weak" hadith. However, if it is weak why is it included in Ibn Majah's collection which is a Sahih (correct) collection? If you ask this question you will not get an answer. More? All scholars, as far as I know, of early Islam did not dismiss a weak hadith because ranking of al-Ahadith is really about what is called al-Isnads or the names of those that transmitted the hadith which is all bogus and made up AND nonsense. If it is in Ibn Majah's book then Muslims just have to deal with it. Oh al-Matn? Or the substance of the hadith? It does not really matter which is really bizarre and this is why Muslims ended with embarrassing Ahadith the likes of "Breast Feeding of the adult" and it is because it has good Isnads! Notice that the final sentence in the link is: والله اعلم or And Only Allah Knows! Which means no one has a clue Use googletranslate it is not the best but you will get an idea about the stance of Sunni Islam
