Rendering Salvation Messages in Coloquial TermsReader comment on item: How Fares Western Civ? Submitted by M Tovey (United States), Jul 27, 2020 at 22:10 This is great......always one to discern what is to be taken on the face of it, as this observe does with Hebrew Holy Writ; and what needs to be taken with the context in order to maintain what the source and authority of that which is represented to be truth, but again the discernment is necessary. To the first phrase, your first read is correct, that in the context of its use, Paul and Silas being in prison and having been released by angelic interaction, spoke together to tell the guard not to hurt himself. In his response to them, asked we he needed to do to keep from perishing for dereliction of duty. "And they said, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved, (Acts 16:31) etc...., hence, the 'dual verb past tense masculine' would be the better read. Context is important as well in your reference to the angelic announcement (Luke 2:19-14) to the shepherds of the fulfillment of Isaiah 9:6, etc; and 49:1; this, along with the prior word spoken in Luke 2:7, commenced a beginning fulfillment of the prophesies of the Son of Man, Son of David. As for the reference of this in the much later attempt to make some connection in the burgeoning era of Christianity losing its salt, the witness of the reality of the virgin birth of Yeshua HaMashiach is used to masquerade the reality of salvation through the Jewish Savior, the witness is lost due to poor understanding by the faithless leadership spoken of by Yeshua when He was still in His ministry before the religious authorities of that time had Him put to death; after which He rose from the dead. How does the Peshitta render this to the followers of the Savior at that time?
