How they scam youReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Straight_Talk_Luigi (United States), Jun 3, 2008 at 21:51 Those are good questions, American. First of all, what they will do is ascertain if you are a man or a woman. This is important because scams against men tend to me much easier to implement. I think more and more people may be catching on, but typically what they do is sign up for a dating profile, steal some pictures of model, get in touch with a guy, and then use marketing techniques to get money. There is one simple principle: Not to ask directly, but to get you to offer the money. One common technique is to put together a sob story about being stuck somewhere in a foreign country. The woman I dated (who was an American and lived an hour away from me) had mastered this. She would call me crying in the middle of night, at work, and complain about bills and how she would be evicted, ect. She wasn't a visa scammer, obviously, but she wanted money, and foolishly I gave it to her. She spent it on other men and her friends, and was having cybersex with someone else every other week. These sob stories are the same techniques that strippers and sometimes waitresses will use on horny men for a larger tip. With her, it even got to a point where she would threaten suicide to get what she wanted. Is it just me, or this really becoming a blackmailing issue in our country today? In fact, many men dish out money even before meeting the woman. In some cases, the person may not even be a woman. With women, I think it's more complicated. They aren't as easily fooled by stolen model pictures, but the length the scammers go to acheieve their money and trust is astounding. The women may even meet his family several times, and the family is sometimes in on it. It does sound severe, but think about it like this: Many women fall for these men. Why? Because they probably have 20-40 women they talk to. So, the guy doesn't seem available. This tends to raise a woman's attraction because the guy doesn't seem needy. Also, many of these scammers have general talking points, so they reveal very little about themselves. And because they talk to so many women, they seem mysterious, and women love mystery men. The other big thing is the charm. In today's society, chivalry is all but gone. It's really easy for a guy to be charming and chilvarious on-line, especially when he has 3 different pop-up windows of sites on how to talk to women. These cheat sheets aren't available on a real outing. That brings me to my final point; Communication. We are complex beings, and we communicate by other means besides talking and typing. Body language, facial expressions, timing, ect. All of these are meaningless over the phone or internet. I've found that a few folks think a webcam subs for this. It doesn't, and it's nothing like a real date. When women are not on a real date, their ability to sniff out a guy's BS are reduced significantly, because most communication as I stated above cannot be read! I've referenced dating guru Marius Panzerella's Dating Secrets Revealed before, and he indicates that when most women go on dates, they are looking for reasons NOT to date the guy they are with. This is the same behavioral pattern on-line, but like I said, their ability to sniff out BS is handicapped.
Your question is what do they do once they have the money. Just run away and leave? That may be what Nigerian letter scammers do, and you'll see those in the media from time to time. However, the dating scammers behave differently. For one thing, they are NOT afraid to confront you if you try and call them out on it. I've talked on-line to Latino, Nigerian and Russian before. Every time I would call them out on it, or keep on asking them questions, they would get offended and tell me how rude I was and all. Sometimes, they'll even threaten to end your relationship if you don't give in or stop asking them questions. All that's just bait to get you to shut-up and trust them. Some women on here have said that they "are supposed" to send money every so often. Again, that's more sales techniques: making you feel like you have to do something. Think about it: Can you go into a grocery store or Walmart and leave without buying something? Or do you feel like you have to? It's the same thing. If money is being sent in a steady stream, they usually milk that as much as possible. It's almost like feeding a wild bear. If you do this once, he'll come back for more. Why? Bears are actually lazy creatures, believe it or not, and they would prefer not to have to run around hunting all day. The same can be said for scammers. They want it to be as easy possible. That's why they target people on vacation (resting and have their guard down). Large timeshare companies in the south and west do this too. They'll get people on vacation to come and see their services and then beat them over the head with a high-pressure sales presentation (side note---it's a LOT better and ethical and carefree if you do this with a local company in the Midwest). Why people on vacation? 1) They are traveling, so they have money---with them. 2) They aren't on their guard 3) Most important---spantaneous people are much more likely to buy. Here's an example: next time you are in the grocery store, notice if the price of candy is cheaper in the aisles than at the check-out counter. 4) By investing your time into talking to someone, the more persuasive they are and the more you invest, the harder it is to say NO. It's all about making you feel like you have to, and you don't. Listen, I'll give another example. If a guy were to have a one-night stand with a woman, and she offered, not him, and they went to her room and she stripped and then stripped him, and then said you know, I guess I don't want to do it, He can't make her do it. If I did, it would be rape. Even after all that. People need to have the courage to say NO! Even if they are so close to a major decision. You have that God-given right! Look farther than the Constitution! If they want a visa, what they'll do is be nice and charming up until after you are married. Then that's when things really, really go south. Why? Because you are now legally tied to that person, like it or not. And no matter what happens, that is how any court in any land will see it. Dr. Pipes writes about with Saudi men. It happens with Iranian men, too, or here in the USA with our men and Russian women. I can't even tell you how many times a Russian woman comes over via marriage, and once she lands her feet on USA soil, she learns English, gets a liscence, ignores the husband and one day leaves him. When moving to an Islamic country, even Morocco or Egypt, many Westerners don't know what they are getting themselves into. Part of this is because the truth about multiculturalism is hidden for politically correct reasons. The other part is, there's a huge difference between visiting a place and living there. These nations are based on Islamic sharia law. That is a fact. The only difference between them is how the law is enforced. Morocco and Egypt tend to be more lenient, but the Arabian peninsula nations are harsh. Women, Christians, people of other faiths are seen as inferior and treated as second-class citizens, sometimes worse. Surprised? Don't be. It's not just white Europeans who have imposed a class system. Of course, politically correct people want you to think that Want to know something really shocking? Similar things happen even here in the USA. Thousands of people are snuck into here every year AGAINST their will. There have documented cases of Indonesian and Filiapina and Thai women used as slaves under house arrest in Californian, Texas and Virginia. That's really why a lot of these men want to go after a Western woman. They want a housekeeper or someone to have sex with on the side just so they can say they did it with a Western woman. You would be amazed at many educated women and men fall for this nonsense. To sound stereotypical, it's not Mississippi or Iowa farmboys who've never been out of their home county who fall for this. It's educated, well-traveled people with college degrees. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
