Marriage in Jordan To Cold Feet in USAReader comment on item: Advice to Non-Muslim Women against Marrying Muslim Men Submitted by Understanding of Embassy in Fiance's Country (United States), Oct 28, 2009 at 16:56 Cold Feet, Maybe your Fiance Can be confused on how to go about marrying in his country as well? Im not sure if this is his case or if you are feeling "Cold Feet" because he is sending you that gut instinct something is not right in your relationship? Only you know your Fiance' and ones on this board do not. Only you know if things do not add up in your relationship and if you two fully trust one another and have respect for one another and only you two know his character, not ones here on this board. I am born and raised in the USA too and a white female who had been on a plane twice but only to USA states. I had never flown outside of my country. I had so many people telling me how unsafe it was to travel in these other countries including Morocco and how I should take someone with me. I had people here in the USA telling me I would be sold as a sex slave, head chopped off,etc,lol.....I did talk to a lady who had already traveled to Morocco before I left and she was much helpful. I have since traveled twice to this Arabic country and I never felt an uneasiness or butterflies in my stomack or any nervousness at all when I flew and actually landed and even when I saw my husband in REAL for the first time. I was always comfortable with him and had trust in him. I had never dated outside of my culture as well.....my experience I had met a Jordanian married couple on the plane who was a very nice black couple who went out of their way to help me once we landed at New York airport. They were on their way back to Jordan after visiting the US so I am sure there are good people there too in this country. Please don't read this board and think everyone is bad. This is only something you will know in your heart and your instincts. Concerning him not knowing if you can marry in Embassy....my husband as well did not know that you do not marry in the embassy...I had to educate him on my findings. In his country I did have to go to the Embassy to pay for two things; an affidavit of marriage certificate (showing you are free to marry) and a certificate of nationality (stating you are a USA citizen)...so partly he is correct. You will have to do the same in Jordan at the Embassy if you chose to marry in his country. Another option you have is to file a Fiance Visa and this if approved and it checks out not any fraud, he can get a visa approved to come to the USA and he will then have 3 months to marry you within that time period or return to his country. You can wait til he is here and settled and have lived with him those 3 months and decide if you still have uneasiness about him. I had a frnd to do this and he was here within 4-5 months and they are happy with their decision and the Fiance Visa. If he comes here to the USA, he will have to file other papers after your marriage so he can work,etc....if you marry in Jordan, he will have his papers and green card to work and no other papers to file until right before the second year of marriage, but this will take longer for him to arrive in the USA. You need to also check out the USA "Poverty Guidelines for 2009" for Immigration processing to see if you earn enough wages at your employment or have enough assets to SPONSOR him to come....you have to count yourself, him, and all dependents who you have filed for on your federal income tax return for the previous year's filing. Also, I have been told if one is disabled, it is grounds of denial and it does not matter if you go ahead and marry him in his country. You will still be turned down. Also I would think you should not have any government aid yourself including Food stamps can disqualify you. http://travel.state.gov/visa/laws/telegrams/telegrams_4437.html If you do not meet this criteria, you will have to use your savings, property, bank account, cars, home, etc to add up to the sponsorship amount or ask someone to file papers to help you sponsor and most will not due to the fact you sign a form stating that you are resposible for him until he earns 40 working credits and this means 10 years to earn these credits. This is to assure he will not live off the USA government if you divorce or can't support himself. There will also be a FBI check for you and your spouse...just some info.
