I'm guessing you aren't entirely familiar with Turkish culture when you ask how is it possible that he would marry someone from back home in Turkey. This is done all the time by Turks living in Germany and elsewhere. Why ? Because no matter how long they have lived in another country, Turkish people have very deep ties to Turkey and to their faith and strongly believe that a Turkish girl will be pure.

To answer your question why would he want something serious with you, there is no answer. Maybe just because they love games and deceit is a pasttime, even when they "seem" to be religious. Collecting women and professing love is another favorite pasttime - they score points with their friends or something.

Don't be misguided by your perception that he's modern - their traditions go very deep no matter how westernized they might appear to be.
