DhimmismReader comment on item: What is Jihad? Submitted by Dianamoon12 (United States), Dec 1, 2005 at 16:17 In reading a couple of the comments posted here by Muslims, I have noticed the mention of Dhimmism. There seems to be some confusion as to what dhimmi status actually entails for a non Muslim in a Muslim country. The theoretical "cost" for being a non Muslim in a Muslim society, is a tax paid, due to the fact that you are not performing vital governmet functions, due to your being a second class citizen . Why non muslims can perform these vital govrnment functions is a bit puzzling... Right there, you get taxation without representation. In reality, dhimmism is, and has always been a sort of apartheid for Christians, Jews, and Hindus in Muslim societies. As I've posted before, dhimmism is often accompanied by rules and regulations intended on making the non muslim feel hopeless and humiliated, in hopes that they will convert to Islam. In the past, dhimmis were not allowed to build churches, once Muslim invaders took over, they also could not repair churches that had fallen into disrepair, they could not speak their religious texts within hearing of a Muslim ( meaning if a Muslim walked into their church or synagogue, they had to stop and wait for them to leave), they have , at times been forbidden from teaching their own children their religious beliefs. There are many other instances of things such as this. It is also Sharia (Islamic law) in virtually every Muslim nation, that a non muslim can not teach others about their religions, and if they do, they can be executed. Also, a muslim who leaves Islam to join another religious persuasion, does so at the risk that he or she will lose their entire family, jobs, etc. as well as their lives, due to the fact that conversion is a crime punishable by death. Here are some examples: Pakistan, May 2004, A christian charged with blasphemy, Samuel Masih, was beaten to death with a hammer by a Muslim policeman as he lay in a hospital bed suffering from tuberculosis. Egypt, On November 25, 2003, Boulos Farid Rezek-Allah Awad, a Coptic Christian married to a Christian convert from Islam, was arrested while attempting to leave the country and held for 12 hours. When an Egyptian security police officer asked him about his wife, Rezek-Allah told him that she had already left Egypt. Perhaps mindful of the death penalty for apostates, the official responded, " I'll bring her back and cut her into pieces in front of you." Several months later, Rezak-Allah was allowed to leave Egypt and settle in Canada. Christians comprise only two percent of the population of Pakistan. During a Christian funeral on May 8, 1998, Muslim witnesses say that Rhanja Masih threw a rock at an Islamic sign. Rhanja denies this claim. He has been in prison since his arrest, a victim of Law 295c, blaspheming Mohammed, which normally carries a mandatory death sentence. But on April 26, 2003, Rhanja was sentenced to life in prison and fined 50,000 rupees ($830). Please pray for protection and spiritual strength for Rhanja while he is in prison. Mrs. Ratna, Mrs. Eti and Dr. Rebekka, in Indonesia, were arrested May 16, 2005, and charged under the Children Protection Act of 2002. Their trial began June 30th and ended September 1, 2005, when Indonesian judges sentenced the women to three years in prison plus a fine for allowing Muslim children to attend a Christian Sunday school program. According to Compass Direct News Service, Islamic extremists directed threats inside and outside of the courtroom during the trial. An observer who had attended most of the court sessions indicated there were nine trucks of protestors at this final hearing. These protestors brought with them a coffin to bury the accused if they were not found guilty. The irony of this case is that the women launched the "Happy Sunday" children's program in September of 2003, in response to a request by a local elementary school for assistance to meet legal requirements to comply with the National Education System Bill. Because of the popularity of this program with Christian students, some Muslim children wanted to attend. These Muslim children were only permitted to attend if they had their parent's permission. Later some Muslim parents complained that a picnic held in Jakarta was a trick to Christianize their children while they were away from their village. Eventually their protests went to the Council for County Officers (Muspika). The local MUI (Indonesia Ulama Council) then urged that this problem be resolved by law, which led to accusing the three women of trying to Christianize Muslims. Parvez Masih was the headmaster of a Christian school near Lahore, Pakistan when some of his students asked him if it was true that Mohammed had a nine-year-old wife. Parvez graciously mentioned her name, "Aisha," and told them to look in the Koran. On April 1, 2001 he was arrested and accused of violating Law 295C, blaspheming Mohammed as a result of the testimonies of two of the boys. It is believed that a teacher of a rival high school was involved in an attempt to close this rival school. Attacks on Christians in Pakistan include the elements of ignorance, greed, anger and misinformation. Parvez continues to be held in prison and appears in session court as required but has not yet been sentenced. His family is able to visit him twice a month. Please pray Parvez will be acquitted of these charges and for safety while he is in custody. We stopped lynching African Americans long ago in this country, Dhimmism is just another word for Jim Crow. I, for one am tired of hearing about how Islam is a religion of peace, when the record shows the opposite. Show me a Muslim country that allows nonmuslims to live in this so called "peace" that Islam propogates. Prove all of us wrong who see it for what it is...
