Claire on pork!

I suspect the passages may refer to diseases associated with pork. I suspect it may have been caused by simple undercooking and handling without washing one's hands with warm water and soap afterwards!

When "God" says to do something, I suspect it was generally an insight on the part of the protagonist in question.

I see all ancient sacred books as a combination of metaphor/analogy, allegory, folk wisdom, culture, etc. I think the "father" metaphor was one that would easily be understood by people, so became very popular.
