Dear Dr Pipes, Thanks for your tweet about Michael Gorbachev. In this tweet you very correctly said, "Putin can suitably honor him by renewing the campaigns of #perestroika and #glasnost. Sadly, that remains for a future Russian to do."

I wanted to know what the opinion of the current Russian regime was toward Gorbachev. You answered my question.

One thing that makes the United States standout is that we show at least some respect toward all our past presidents. I hope that USA sticks to this unsaid policy for as long as possible (although sticking to this policy is being made more difficult by both Trump and his opponents). I hope Russia takes a page from our book and honors Gorbachev for his contribution to the world.
