Russia, in terms of a greater society than what has been precipitated upon the peoples of the Slavic north, can be categorized as one of those mysteries of history where many great things may have been imposed, but something interfered and the intended rewards were misappropriated.
In a backward way, the current leader of Russian claims of territoriality might seem legitimate in his perceptions of Soviet legends, were it not for the issue that Russia in its previous sovereignty of a monarchy was itself appropriated by criminal political intentions and any legimate claims for such territoriality erased.
Thus, the actions to annex the Ukraine are, by their very obvious illegitimate appropriation, are in fact now considered spoils of war. Reclamation, much in the same way repatriations from World War II will be noted in the annals of such issues, will become that very problematic argument of just who does own the Ukraine.
The Russian, if his leadership lasts, will find out the lesson that history wrote long before his attempts to rewrite it to suit his terms: that the Ukraine appeared to be the vassal of many empires; but the Ukraine remains Ukrainian: это не русская гостиная.
