Mr. Pipes hits the nail on the proverbial head once again. Obviously, the definition of insanity prevails when you talk about what should and should not be used to attain peace -- in any region, but especially the Middle East. Islam extremists, ideologues and terrorist organizations like Hamas cannot be part of any equation of diplomacy. In the Koran, diplomacy, hudnas, etc... are a part of their core belief, thought of as weaknesses to be exploited, not meaningful dialogue.
In this respect, Bush missed the boat and I am afraid that Obama will just three or four-peat the failed policies of his predecessors. Bush brought in Baker, huge mistake as his own biases colored everything he was invloved in, an example would be the Pollard issue. Bush also allowed Carter, who I believe must have some type of brain impairment, to run around the globe representing the US -- however unofficially, when a former President speaks, Americans might ignore him, but the world listens.
Thank you Mr. Pipes for being the voice of reason, I hope someone on Obama's staff reads your columns.
