Why the surpriseReader comment on item: Insight into Obama's Middle East Policy? Submitted by Yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Jan 1, 2009 at 16:19 For the life of me I cannot figure out the surprise expressed by Prof Pipes as he peruses those alleged glaring deficiencies in the Brookings strategy . They are so easily explained. Islamism is not considered an ideological threat since it appears to be directed mainly at Jews, specifically Israeli Jews. Islamism is not a problem since it might actually solve that 'festering sore' (to quote Obama) problem, the Jewish State. Similarly the Iranian nuclear buildup is not something to be concerned about because it primarily and publicly directs itself at cauterizing the same 'festering sore', the Jewish State. Mr Obama's minions at all levels have been careful to show their thinly camouflaged antisemitic colors, thereby garnering Europe's accolades for their prescience. Pity that by the itme Obama gets to bringing Hamas 'into the fold' Hamas might have shrunk into a shadow of itself, a mere remnant of what could have been the nucleus of the Great Khaliphate Obama might be serving. Obama's Middle East policy does not threaten israel nearly as much as it threatens American Jewry. I hereby predict Obama and his Jewish minions will craft policies that will pit Jews against seemingly American Interests, should they persist in seeing Israel's side of the Eastern Mediterranean narrative. He will look for ways to make American jewry reject Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State, should this Jewry wish to maintain the privileged postition it holds in American life and politics. He will see to it that every American Jew and Jewish organization will have to choose between support for Israel and wholescale castigation for dubious fidelity. He will make American and Islamist interests synonymous, so that opposing Islamist interests will become proof positive of the rejection of American interests in favor of foreign, I.e. Jewish Israeli interests. The so callled 'balance' is but a euphemism for upending the scales entirely in favor of a new paradigm: Closure of the festering sore. Bereft of the stanchion of jewish pride that Israel is, American Jewish organizations will find themselves redundant, and fizzle out. That is what the Obama policy is leading up to. Now, has that eventuality been raised by anyone? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
