Our dear "Robert" and Allah and the Topos of اربعين! What a disasterReader comment on item: Poll: Israel Victory Gains Strength Submitted by dhimmi no more, Oct 27, 2018 at 08:01 Dear readers: This is also beyond our dear "Robert" madrassa education In the antique and late antique worlds of the Middle East numbers 4 40 4000 40000 etc... meant: Many, long period of time, peak, acme etc... You find the Topos in the Bible and the literature of the various cultures of the Middle East before the Arab invasion of the Middle East in 632 CE However, the Topos of 40 makes it to the Qur'an. Oh you don't believe me? Here Q10:16 where it says فَقَدْ لَبِثْتُ فِيكُمْ عُمُرًا This can be rendered as: (We are told by al-Mufasereen that the speaker here is Muhammad) Then I stayed (read this as lived) among you for 'Umra(n) The word 'Umr was read by al-Mufasereen as, and you guessed it, اربعين or forty! Here is Ibn kathir explaining it: وقد كانت مدة مقامه ، عليه السلام ، بين أظهرنا قبل النبوة أربعين سنة Or And his stay peace be upon him (Muhammad) among us (the Arabs in Mecca) before becoming a prophet forty years! Notice that Ibn Kathir is not using Arabic numerals! I wonder why! And notice that Allah is using the very old Middle Eastern Topos of 40! I wonder why! Which is more evidence that the Qur'an is a book written by mere human beings and that history is about continuity not discontinuity or al-Jahiliyya as Muslims tell us Did you get it our dear "Robert"? For the readers: This verse was interpreted by al-Mufasereen as telling us that Muhammad started to receive revelations when he was 40 years old! Absolute insanity So our dear "Robert": Repeat after me: Topoi, numbers and numerals do not drop from the sky Oh, اربعين Arbe'een means forty!
