Motke: The Quranic word Shahr! Is it month or moon?Reader comment on item: Poll: Israel Victory Gains Strength Submitted by dhimmi no more, Nov 2, 2018 at 16:36 Motke you wrote: >sahar/ in Hebrew is synonym for the Moon. BTW, did you know that English's "month" and "Moon" are cognates? Cool.) Well, may be after all the meaning of the Arabic word شهر or Shahr in the Qur'an is moon not month! In Qur'an 2:185 the author of the Qur'an is talking about the "month" of Ramadan and it says: فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ الشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ Or From among you he who witnesses the Shahr (of Ramadan) then he should fast it! Logic dictates that you witness a moon not a month! I do believe that the original meaning of the word Shahr in the Qur'an is moon not month More? Qur'an 75:17 it says إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ (Allah is saying) Truly it is upon us to collect it (the it is the Qur'an) and Quraanahu (this word has no clear meaning) Well Ibn Kathir tells us that the word قُرْآنَهُ should be تقرأه or To read it which is the correct Arabic! This means that either Allah made a mistake or this is a loan word as in Arabized Syriac and it is most likely Arabized Syriac ܩܪܐ or Qra' or Recite also read The real tragedy of the Qur'an is that those that tell us what the Qur'an says were not Arabs and had no command of Syro-Aramaic or Hebrew
