Motke: A verse from the Talmud makes it to the Qur'an!Reader comment on item: Poll: Israel Victory Gains Strength Submitted by dhimmi no more, Jun 12, 2019 at 14:10 Hi Motke, Speaking of the Talmud, the Islamic historical tradition and al-mufasereen have never been able to explain how did TALMUD Sanhedrin 4:5 is in the Qur'an and indeed a rather good translation to Arabic. Why is it puzzling? Because al-mufasereen tell us that Allah is the author of the Bible so if you find a verse in the Qur'an similar to a verse in the Bible then we know why. However, al-mufasereen never claimed that Allah is also the author of the Talmud! And as usual al-mufasereen invented a story about a young Jew (he wore a kippa and had sidelocks (payot/peyot) his name is Ibn Thabit who was Muhammad's assistant/secretary who was instructed to learn Hebrew and Aramaic (in the Islamic sources al-lugha al-siryaniyya) and we are told that he learned both languages in 17 days! Is it a true story? We will never know but Muhammad must have had informants that were literate and were able to read and translate to Arabic Syriac/Aramaic as well as Hebrew texts Here is the problem Jewish and non Jewish literary sources (including literary sources in Syriac) before 632 CE (when Muhammad died) are silent about Arabia and Muhammad! And more evidence that al-Hijaz is not where Islam was created, but it was more likely than not in Mesopotamia The moral of the story: Never trust a plagiarist Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
