It is a given that belief in God entails the belief that in some manner God has communicated with (or to) either man or especially those who believe in Him.

So, when I state "as He defines Himself", and in specific to my faith, God has "talked" to me/mankind through the Quran, which Muslims consider as the verbatim "word of God". Thus, it is the substantial reference in particular that I use. I use and rely on such indeed because it relates or is directed to my sense/perspective, so it thereby does lie within my own "experience" and is then relevant in this regard.
