IS ALLAH YHWH? Sorry - but - NO!

Nearly all Jewish rabbis teach that islam is free of idol worship. Many of are greatest rabbis wrote in Arabic and used the name Allah for God. BTW Allah would be spelled Aleph-Lamed-Hey in Hebrew. This term is used in the Tanach for God.

Thank you for your response, but as you may surmise, it doesn't matter a 'jot or tittle' to me what even the most respected rabbis may think about this …

Let us consider the title of this 'thread': Is Allah God? If allah merely means god then the question being asked is 'Is God God?' Well, to that point I would have to bow to the esteemed knowledge of your many 'greatest' rabbis. GOD IS CERTAINLY GOD. The real question, as I see it, is: 'IS ALLAH YHWH?' or – let me ask you another question – does the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have [2] NAMES, YHWH & ALLAH, or NO?

Exo 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you take ye heed; and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth. [JPS]

Here we have YHWH speaking to the people through Moses instructing them not to even mention the name of any other god(s) … that these names should never come out of their mouths.

Exo 34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest they be for a snare in the midst of thee.

Exo 34:13 But ye shall break down their altars, and dash in pieces their pillars, and ye shall cut down their Asherim.

Exo 34:14 For thou shalt bow down to no other god; for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God;

Exo 34:15 lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go astray after their gods, and do sacrifice unto their gods, and they call thee, and thou eat of their sacrifice;

Exo 34:16 and thou take of their daughters unto thy sons, and their daughters go astray after their gods, and make thy sons go astray after their gods. [JPS]

Here YHWH (metaphorically) says His name is 'Jealous' and is telling the people to destroy anything that might act as a snare and cause them to 'go after' the worship of 'other god(s)' – could mentioning the name of another god also be a 'snare'?

1Ki 8:17 Now it was in the heart of David my father to build a house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

1Ki 8:18 But the LORD said unto David my father: Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for My name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart;

1Ki 8:19 nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for My name.

1Ki 8:20 And the LORD hath established His word that He spoke; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

1Ki 8:21 And there have I set a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which He made with our fathers, when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.'

1Ki 8:22 And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;

1Ki 8:23 and he said: 'O LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like Thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath; who keepest covenant and mercy with Thy servants, that walk before Thee with all their heart;

1Ki 8:24 who hast kept with Thy servant David my father that which Thou didst promise him; yea, Thou spokest with Thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with Thy hand, as it is this day. [JPS]

I tell you, there is something special about the name of the LORD (YHWH) that it is to kept separate and sacrosanct and can never be mixed or mingled with the name(s) of other 'so-called' gods.

So – if the word allah simply means god then it would be appropriate to use it wherever the word god(s) appear in the above verses – however – it would be inappropriate to use it for the word that is translated as LORD in the above verses for that word is the NAME of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

Isa 43:10 Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen; that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He; before Me there was no God formed, neither shall any be after Me.

Isa 43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside Me there is no saviour.

Isa 43:12 I have declared, and I have saved, and I have announced, and there was no strange god among you; therefore ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and I am God. [JPS]

Isa 44:6 Thus saith the LORD, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last, and beside Me there is no God. [JPS]

Isa 45:5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, beside Me there is no God; I have girded thee, though thou hast not known Me;

Isa 45:6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside Me; I am the LORD; and there is none else; [JPS]

Isa 45:20 Assemble yourselves and come, draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations; they have no knowledge that carry the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

Isa 45:21 Declare ye, and bring them near, yea, let them take counsel together: Who hath announced this from ancient time, and declared it of old? Have not I the LORD? And there is no God else beside Me, a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside Me.

Isa 45:22 Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else. [JPS]

Sorry for all these quotations that you are undoubtedly very familiar with, they may prove helpful to others.

It appears to me, at least, that 'the LORD', the God of Israel, is of the distinct impression that 'HE' is the only true God. So, getting back to my question: 'Is ALLAH YHWH?', I must answer a resounding NO!
