Dear Dr Pipes,
Bizarre is the Islamic love for violence. It so happened that Iraqi Shia leader, the famous Muqtada al-Sadr, announced that he would be retiring from politics permanently. Some sources say that Mr al-Sadr announces his retirement from politics every so often but never retires. Whatever the case may be, his Iraqi pupils threw him a retirement party. No cake was cut or sweets distributed but 30 people were killed by only Allah knows who. Iraq, like all Islamic theocracies, is 95+% Muslims. So almost all killers and killed must have been Muslims. Most of Iraq is Sunni. So, probably, the Sunnis of Iraq are trying to kill the Shias of Islam or vice versa.
Iraq was ruled by Socialist Baaths for many decades. After Saddam Hussain's rule ended, Iraq has been under significant US influence. But, what remains constant in the Islamic world is Islam. Decades of socialism and the attempted-democracy have made no dent in Islamic love for violence.
30 dead people in a dar-ul Islam for no good reason but muslims politicians in free democracies will keep singing the praise of Islam and won't utter a word admitting the failings of Islam. BBC reported on this incidence with a straight face and without using the word Islam. These responsible parties will not speak the whole truth about Islam. So, I am doing it.
My suggestion to Muslims all over the world is to reduce their propensity for violence. Some fasting and/or some meditation and reflection can help. Most non-Muslims of the world do such things. Even if you are not a killer yourself, your fasting and meditation brings peace to the actual killers. Try it, dear Muslims. Finally, if you want to stay non-spiritual, separation of church and state also reduces religious violence like magic. These ideas may not be written in Quran, Sharia, and the hadiths but they are good and they work.
