Dear Dr Pipes, The discussion in this trail of messages is if a nation can be created based on hate. M Tovey suggested that now dead Soviet Union was created based on hate. He also suggested that Israel is a counter example and was not created based on hate.
My thesis is that many Islamic nations were originally created with hate in mind. Consider the modern Islamic Republic of Iran. It has continued to exist as a nation since the 7th century when an Arabian caliph ordered the conquest and islamization of the then Persia. I request the readers to read about Islamization of Persia (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_conquest_of_Persia). Zorostrian priests were killed, wars were launched and won, and people were killed.
Over time the footsteps of history get fainted and we forget but wasn't the Islamic Republic of Iran created with hate in mind? Can priests be murdered without hate? Hate can not only create nations, it can even sustain them. Can a 24 year old man attack a 75 year old author (Salman Rushdie) without hate? Can a call be made to push Israel into the ocean without hate?
Our task, today, is to contain and reverse the Islamic hate for different peoples and principles without ourselves resorting to the hate that originally advanced Islam.
