Islam, just as it is in Messianic Christianity ('modern' variations of denominational interferences with the Gospel message aside), the basic tenets are incontrovertible to proper discernment of the values being held. The main difference between the Jewish Old Testament (and the Gospel message) and the Quran is that the Quran was written with the specific intention of replacing the 'corrupted' interpretations (of the Jewish Scriptures) because the Messianic message of the time was not being honored for its truth about the Jewish Messiah.
If one were to 'modernize' the concepts of the Quran, in strict terms, that is compromise and apostasy is alleged.
On the other hand, modernization of the Gospel message is sought by anyone that choses not to believe in the Jewish Messiah, a circumstance of which has been debated for two thousand years and the original message remains intact - believe in Yeshua the Messiah and be saved. Don't; and you are on your own spiritually; a different goal with different rewards. The Quran does not tell anyone about this loss of eternity.
