Back to the topic at hand - Historical Legitimacy- Rebuking the RenukingReader comment on item: Iraq - A Province of Iran? Submitted by Michel C. Zala (Switzerland), Jul 10, 2011 at 16:05 I have consumed your heated tangent with Dhimmi and another reader. Since I am neither a biblical nor a muslim scholar, I will only mention that in fact Dhimmi, whom I myself had heated exchanges with, arguably speaks and writes near perfect Arabic. Several readers confirmed that fact to my own chagrin at times...:) You on the other hand lecture people on English as well as Arabic. As far, as English is concerned however, the throwing of the first stone analogy comes to mind. I recommend you tread carefully. As far, as our original debate is concerned, allow me to clarify my position. I do not dispute the name of Palestine as a name for the entire region. There are indeed many historical references dating way back. I dispute however the notion of a people, called Palestinians, as there are no historical references to this (homogenous) people, until in the mid-to late 20th century, a name foremost public relationed by Arafat. You will have to certainly admit, that Hebrews/Jews were known as a distinct people for many thousand years, at all times positioned in and around Jerusalem ( even, if the Capital was occupied often and changed hands often). Your own scripture speaks of two tribes, one being placed by Allah in today's Saudi Arabia, the other in a much smaller region, Palestine. During the reign of Persia, Babylonia, Aegypt, Rome, Ottomans, Crusaders, at all times the people of the Hewbrews/Jews were mentioned as a people with a clear and distinct identity and a clearly claimed (if not officially occupied) capital, Jerusalem. By all historical and scriptural accounts, even your own, Jerusalem was founded by a hebrew King, King David, depending on the source, up to 10000 years ago. Recent archaeological findings seem to support that notion. Now, as I mentioned before, historical claims are futile. Especially, since in fact muslim reign over the region outlast jewish. It also does not come as a surprise, that the indigenous people of Palestine (encountered around 1940), sparsely inhabiting parts of the region, per their own DNA stem from various people, are descendants of various migrations or invasions, and at no time until recently saw themselves as one distinct people with a specific identity. After all, one reason, why Jews were able to purchase land so easily and never had to resort to yet another invasion. (See article "Israel was purchased."....) I deplore the fact that some indigenous people of various origins found themselves then in between warring fronts. Wars after all, not once started by Israel, which found itself under Attack by its neighbors from the very first day of its inception and not, until it became clear that a veritable Paradise could be created out of stone and desert by sheer will and hard work. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire and the resulting British protectorate, intended to pacify and stabilise rivaling muslim factions and nations, some of these descendants of many former invasions and occupations all of a sudden found themselves fenced in, within the borders of a newly and peacefully created (purchased) very old nation. Some were displaced, some fled the muslim attacks, some stayed as Israeli Citizens, who by now enjoy the only real democracy thoughout the entire middle east. So, in conclusion, stop selling the BS of a distinct Palestinian People, ethnically cleansed out of Israel. They should not have sold their land, they should have stayed and they should have remained as Citizens of Israel. And give me a break with the argument of immigration. It is a fact of life and happens even with all of the muslim nations, where people migrate to countries, where they make a better living, earn more money or find a home for whatever reasons. Just because your own argument of a Jewis state not having existed for such a long time, is valid, it fully explains, why Jews after such a long Diaspora still return home from so many other countries. We Americans know and understand ( and emphatize wih it) this better than anyone else. I conclude again: A Palestinian State is neither economically viable (in its proposed borders), nor does it have any historical legitimacy. Thanks to the genious of Arafat, a Terrorist after all, nowadays the ludicrous notion of a Palestinian State, inhabited by "Palestinians", seems to be almost undisputed fact, whereas the one state solution, a secular democracy with equal citizens and free access to all holy sites by any spiritual denomination is the only way to end this quagmire. Let us not forget, Millions of fanatic muslims still deny Israel's right to exist. Since Israel is not going anywhere, since this is about its own survival, one can not help but to ask, what is the motive for this ongoing aggression? It is, because they can, without ever having to fear their own demise. Iran, SA, Lebanon, Syria etc. etc. will continue to exist. They have nothing really to risk. So why not propel the everlasting conflict. Why not ask for more and more? Why compromise? Nobody really amongst those muslim brothers in fact gives a shit about that People. Warring amongst muslim factions and denominations has as much tradition, as seeking conflict with the western and zionist enemy. This is conflict for conflict's sake, where one side has everything and the other nothing to lose, which is why the arabs will never be satisfied, even , if Israel would hypothetically shrink down to a city state of Jerusalem. Once we all acknowledge that simple fact, we can put blame on the actual culprits of this neverending conflict. Religious zealots of the likes of Hamas, Hezbollah, l Aksah etc., their strings pulled by the puppetmasters in Damaskus and Tehran, financed by the other rich fanatics in Riad and the Gulf states. Cui Bono? Who profits from the conflict? Certainly not Israel. On the other hand, I could list a dozen reasons why fueling this conflict makes sense for aforementioned proponents. Only because we still need their oil, does the free world keep a blind eye to those blatantly obvious frame parameters of this issue. But beware, that dependency is fading fast...
