ServantReader comment on item: A Christian Boom Submitted by John of Science (United Kingdom), Feb 10, 2007 at 09:51 Please do not be so blind. Noah gave specific dimensions for the Ark unlike the Sumerians, etc. Those specific dimensions are what scientists say are capable of withstanding the raw power of the sea. Let's remember that Genesis records history and not the present when Moses wrote it: The Flood occured roughly around 2500 BC. Genesis was written between 1500-1200 BC. This gives mankind a good 1000 years of passing down the tales from the descendants of Noah. So if we take an objective view, free from bias, it would be very probable for such an event to be passed down from generation to generation though distorted because it was passed by word of mouth. Therefore, just because the Sumerians wrote it down first, doesn't mean the Jews copied them. Again, since the Biblical account of the Flood is both detailed, accurate, and has evidence of a worldwide Flood, it is obvious that it is the real account. The eygptians would have wrote it down. Geology shows that the pattern of the rocks in the Grand Canyon would be more likely created by a huge, powerful amount of water rather than a small river in a course of a thousand, million, years. Again, you have ignored the bone beds... "The principal consensus among geologists is that the Colorado River basin (of which the Grand Canyon is a part) has developed in the past 40 million years and that the Grand Canyon itself is probably less than five to six million years old (with most of the downcutting occurring in the last two million years). The result of all this erosion is one of the most complete geologic columns on the planet. The major geologic exposures in Grand Canyon range in age from the 2 billion year old Vishnu Schist at the bottom of the Inner Gorge to the 230 million year old Kaibab Limestone on the Rim. Many of the formations were deposited in warm shallow seas, near-shore environments (such as beaches), and swamps as the seashore repeatedly advanced and retreated over the edge of a proto-North America. Major exceptions include the Permian Coconino Sandstone which was laid down as sand dunes in a desert and several parts of the Supai Group. The great depth of the Grand Canyon and especially the height of its strata (most of which formed below sea level) can be attributed to 5,000 to 10,000 feet (1500 to 3000 m) of uplift of the Colorado Plateaus, starting about 65 million years ago (during the Laramide Orogeny). This uplift has steepened the stream gradient of the Colorado River and its tributaries, which in turn has increased their speed and thus their ability to cut through rock (see the elevation summary of the Colorado River for present conditions). Weather conditions during the ice ages also increased the amount of water in the Colorado River drainage system. The ancestral Colorado River responded by cutting its channel faster and deeper. The base level and course of the Colorado River (or its ancestral equivalent) changed 5.3 million years ago when the Gulf of California opened and lowered the river's base level (its lowest point). This increased the rate of erosion and cut nearly all of the Grand Canyon's current depth by 1.2 million years ago. The terraced walls of the canyon were created by differential erosion. About one million years ago, volcanic activity (mostly near the western canyon area) deposited ash and lava over the area, which at times completely obstructed the river. These volcanic rocks are the youngest in the canyon. " Human conscience bears witness that stealing, murdering, lying is wrong (Romans 2:15). However, for the chance that the Jews to use foreign material for their religion, is very, very small. Egyptians were polytheistic (except one Pharoah) who worshiped various animal gods. We have witnessed history. The Jews are very proud of their religion which is their identity and their pride. Which begs the question, if the material from Exodus is copied from Egyptian funeral myths, then is the stunning accuracy of Genesis' dimensions for the Ark a forgery as well? Can love thy neighbor, the monotheism (only one Pharoah dared to make monotheism but it was shortlived), the plagues of Egypt, the Law, and the sacrifices be forgeries? Moses still must have got his 6 of his ten commandents from the egyptians. How can God be a theory? Christianity is not just a religion, it is a relationship. No other religion will say this blunt statement, "I know God and I have a personal relationship with him." I use to be a christian and I never really felt like that i had a relationship with God. I will introduce the prophecies of the Bible to Sohail first and then I will copy+paste them to you so that you may respond to them as well. Ok. John of Science
