Guiding the perplexed: Do Muslims curse the Jews and Christians when reciting al-Fatiha: 7? It seems that they doReader comment on item: Israel Has a War to Win Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Dec 26, 2021 at 08:34 Prashant wrote: >No where in the recited versrs, I found a direct criticism or dismissal of Christians or Jews or others. In fact, the first 6 verses are pretty good from a theistic point of view. The 7th verse may be questionable. Let us read the first half of the verse Quran 1:7: صراط الذين انعمت عليهم This can be rendered as: The path of those you had (read it as have or present tense) favored So the question is who are those that Allah favored? al-Tabari provides a long list, clearly he does not know and he tells us that those favored by Allah are: المسلمون or the Muslims Now here comes the disaster and this is the second part of the verse: غير امغضوب عليهم ولا الضالين This can be rendered as: Other than those that those that are the subjects of (his) anger and not that are misguided Here compare with Ghali's translation https://quranicquotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/ghali-quran-english-translation.pdf So the question is 1. Who are those that make Allah angry? 2. And who are those that are misguided? Well, the author of the Qur'an as usual does not tell us so we have to read al-Mufasereen and in this case I will select Ibn Kathir because his tafsir of the verse is straight to the point and this is how he defines who are those that make Allah angry and who are those that are misguided? This is what he says: سألت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم عن قول الله : ( غير المغضوب عليهم ) قال : هم اليهود ( ولا الضالين ) قال : النصارى هم الضالون . Or : I asked the messenger of Allah may Allah prays upon and salutes: Those that the subjects of (Allah's) anger are the Jews and those that are misguided, he said al-Nasara (or the Christians) and they are the misguided. Why is Allah being angry at the Jews? Because they did not believe him and they thought that he was a fake prophet. There is a tradition where Muhammad was quoted as saying: If 10 Jews will convert to Islam all the Jews will follow. Obviously he failed. Also check Muhammad's response to Jews poking holes in his discredited "monotheism" and preserved in al-Tabari's tafsir of Surat al-Ilkhlas: 1. The Jews asked his: If Allah created this creation then who created Allah? And Muhammad seemed to have a "breath holding spell" and his face turned red and as usual cursed the Jews. This is why Allah aka Muhammad was angry at the Jews. The "misguided"? They are the Christians and their Trinity. But think about it: Allah plans everything so who really misguided them? It is Allah. More disasters? The verse that says Trinity is bad is the same verse that there is indeed an Islamic Trinity and it is: Jesus the man/prophet, Jesus is the WORD of Allah, Jesus the SPIRIT of Allah. Go figure. So when Muslims recite Surat al-Fatiha:7 they are really cursing the Jews and Christians and telling them that Allah is angry at them and they are misguided Did you get it? The lesson to be leaned: 1. The Qur'an is "text with no context." And do not opine without reading the earliest Mufasereen. Sometimes they get it and most of the time they have no clue 2. Never give an opinion about what the Qur'an says according to a translation. You must check the text in Arabic and Sahih International (it is a poor tendentious translation) but they have a good feature and that is if you click on a word in the Arabic text you will be provided with meaning in English and you can hear the recitation of the word. 3. Stay away from translations by Indian and Pakistani Muslims. 4. Best translation is Ghali's translation Here is Ibn Kathir tafsir. use googletranslate http://quran.ksu.edu.sa/tafseer/katheer/sura1-aya7.html Here is Ghali's translation https://quranicquotes.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/ghali-quran-english-translation.pdf Here is a link to Sahih International and Khattab's translation where you can check the Arabic text https://quran.com/1/1-7?translations=20 I expect a response Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
