Hamzah, could you point me to where Islam gives this directive? Thank you.
My confusion stems from the fatwa that called for the murder of Salman Rushdie in 1989, issued by the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran because they didn't like one of his books. Given that murder is against the law in England, where Mr. Rushdie resided at the time, this would seem contrary to the belief that one should abide by a country's law. My confusion is furthered by the fact that the Islamic Republic of Iran is run by holy men, ayatollahs and hojatoleslams who have spent their lives studying Islam. I always figured they knew what they were talking about.
