Dear Dr Pipes, Thanks for providing this platform for exchanging ideas about the ME politics and Islam. I have been writing here for over 7 or 8 years. In the beginning, I did not know what I was standing for but over time three principles have emerged. I will recite them here because I think they can be useful for others as well. These principles may further evolve with time. They are listed in order in which they occurred to me:
1. Do not judge Islam by Islamic standards. Judge Islam by common shared world standards.
2. When needed, oppose and challenge Islamic practices and doctrines firmly but politely. Symmetry is important. Supporting non-symmetry in any form is hypocrisy. This can tell us what to oppose and what not to.
3. Demanding separation of church and state in Islamic nations and demanding separation of church and politics in day-to-day life, non-violently, is the most potent way for non-muslims to bring material change in Islam (because it allows us to talk at a macro level and saves us from the nitty-gritty details).
Hope this is useful.
