Dear Dr Pipes, reader Hamza designates the Babrib Mosque in Ayodhya as 'one of the more holy mosques in India'. Ayodhya is a tiny little town on a very small tributary of the Ganges. It would be an unimportant town by every standard if it were not considered to be the birth place of Lord Rama. It is very unlikely that a warlord from Central Asia (Babar) would pick Ayodhya to build a holy mosque unless it was his purpose to demoralize and subjugate the local non-Islamic cultures. I hope Mr Hamza gives this thought some consideration. Muslim warlords of the past showed similar behaviors in all nations throughout history. Cordoba in Spain, Hagia Sophia in Turkey, Qutub Minar in Delhi, and Temple Mount in Israel are some other non-Islamic monuments that have survived to tell the tale of Muslim looters. Persia, Afghanistan, North Africa, Pakistan, and Most of Middle East have been Islamic for so long that there is no one there to tell the tale of what might have happened there when Muslims vanquished them using violent armies.
I will repeat what I had said recently in a different message: Muslims need to confront and account for their violent past.
Hamza invited non-muslims to look at all the wrongs that our people also did. Sure, breaking Babri Mosque when the matter was still sub-juris was wrong but it was not equivalent of making it. Sending Hindu, Christian, and Jewish armies to Mecca, Qom, and Baghdad and building Temples, Churches and Synagogues there will be the exact equivalent. Hope Mr Hamza can see the parallel.
