Obviously a very important part of the world anti-Islamist campaign now in its fifth year.
It would be tremendously helpful to us, the good guys in this fight, to go after the Assad regime in Damascus, and remove the dominant Shi'ite Alawite dictatorship from power. A joint operation, with the IDF from the south and the US Marines from the west advancing simultaneously on Damascus could control the situation very rapidly before Iran, the Assads' only ally, can go nuclear.
Once the mullahs have the Bomb, of course, all bets are off. Eliminating their Alawite proxy on the Israel front will cripple them and force Hezbollah to disarm. If Iran gets the Bomb, though, then so does Syria, and so does Hezbollah. Not a pretty picture.
