The Lebanese govt. is obsessed with getting Israeli troops out of Lebanon as a 'precondition' for ceasefire. As a sop, they are prepared to send 15000 Lebanese troops - 'Lebanese troops ! Goodness what is that' you might ask.
The Lebanese govt is in the hands of Hezbollah advisors - as it usually is- and possibly under Syrian. For all these weeks, Siniora was crying for ceasefire. Once the ceasefire is in sight, he wants simulateous Israeli pull-out. Ironically, he is delaying the diplomatic process and stringing along Israeli offensive. Perhaps , it is to Israel's advantage. Hezbolla's game would be that if Israeli troops withdraw, they can immediately occupy the vantage points facing Israel and start rocketing again. Lebanese government's promises are not worth the paper they are written on. They are systematically manipulated by Hez and Syria.
If Israel can extend the war by another 2 weeks and deliver a knock-out blow to Hez in south Lebanon before a ceasefire, that would be ideal.
