Dr. Pipes,
I just watched this video. This YouTube channel is run by an Egyptian young man who lives in Izmir, Turkey. This channel is new to me. However, he provides a very interesting examination of the rapid rise in cost of living and stagnation of salaries and the rapid rise in the price of food and inflation in today's Turkey.

However, it came as a surprise to me that the Turkish week-end is Saturday and Sunday! And it seems that most women do not wear al-hijab and look more European than Asian. Could it be because the city of Izmir was a Greek city and more likely than not those living in Izmir today are mostly the descendants of the Greeks and the Armenians and the Syrians that converted to Islam and therefore did not flee the city in 1922-1923.
Most interesting is that the YouTuber told us in another video that 80% of the population of Izmir do not pray or fast Ramadan and drink lots of Araq.
What is causing inflation and not just in Turkey but also in the US? Could it be the COVID-19 pandemic and the measures taken by various governments to stop the spreading of the virus? Or are we witnessing a correction as a result of too much money circulating globally? Remember that in the past 20 years we have witnessed vast decline in poverty across the globe which means most people have more money to spend and this is what inflation is all about.
Very interesting view of a part of the world that is very important for the security of the West.
