More foreign words in the Qur'an and this time Allah al-Qayuum! Oh al-Qayuum? It is a loan word from SyriacReader comment on item: Friendless in the Middle East Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), Apr 11, 2012 at 13:30 For the readers; This is beyond our dear Amin madrassa education Again the authors of the Qur'an tell us that the Qur'an is a Quanana(n) 3Arabiya(n) or it is an Arabic Qur'an which is far from the truth and here is another example of foreign words in the Qur'an and it is Allah al-hay al-qayuum and the word is question is al-qayuum or القيوم and you will fiond it in Q2:255 The word al-qyuum puzzled the ulama as it is beyond doubt that it is a foreign word there is no grammatical construct in the Arabic language as in al-fay3ool or الفيعول and this was indeed what al-Tabari says in his masoritic exegesis of this very strnage word : { الْقَيُّوم } فَإِنَّهُ " الْفَيْعُول " مِنْ الْقِيَام , وَأَصْله " الْقَيْوُوم " : سَبَقَ عَيْن الْفِعْل وَهِيَ وَاو يَاء سَاكِنَة , فَأُدْغِمَتَا فَصَارَتَا يَاء مُشَدَّدَة ; وَكَذَلِك تَفْعَل الْعَرَب فِي كُلّ وَاو كَانَتْ لِلْفِعْلِ عَيْنًا سَبَقَتْهَا يَاء سَاكِنَة So he is giving the reader no more than a grammatical spin on this strange word and that it is from the word al-qiyam which is not true and that the etymology from the word al-QUWWM by adding another waw and what a disaster he is editing the Qur'an! Then he writes { الْقَيُّوم } قَالَ : الْقَائِم عَلَى كُلّ شَيْء so the word now is really al-qa'im! what a disaster Oh wait there is more then next he tells us that this word is really { الْقَيُّوم } قَيِّم كُلّ شَيْء or the word is really qayim! What a disaster this really means that he does not know what this strange word really means Now enter the shameful translation of the Qur'an by Yusuf Ali and we are told that the word al-qayuum really means eternal and self sustaining! But again Yusuf Ali was ignorant But you know what? al-Tabari was lost because his knowledge of Syriac was poor at best because this is a Syriac word and it is Eastern Syriac : ܩܵܝܘܿܡܵܐ Western Syriac : ܩܳܝܽܘܡܳܐ Eastern phonetic : qa ' iu: ma (?) Oh and in Hebrew it is Hebrew : qaiam «existing » «existant» Oh the meaning of the word? It is: "a supporter , an upholder , an advocate , a backer , an adherent , a follower , a disciple , a partisan ; 2) a manager , a superintendent , an executive , a boss , a director , an administrator , a leader , a chief , a head ; 3) a succorer / support , a patron / one who sustains / one who helps to exist ; 4) a president , a chairman (?) " Nothing about the ignorant Yusuf Ali's self sustaining or eternal See what happens when your so called prophet "borrows" words from foreign languages? But again this is what the Qur'an is all about lies and farbrications Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
