More Quranic disasters and words that have no meaning and why is that?Reader comment on item: Friendless in the Middle East Submitted by dhimmi no more (United States), May 6, 2012 at 09:04 Our dear Amin who lives among kuffar can you tell us kuffar what does the word ilaf or ايلف mean ooops let me edit this poor Arabic اِيلاف and you will find it in surat Quraish Hint: No one has a clue For the readers the masorites had no clue how to even read/edit this word and here is what al-Tabari is saying الْقَوْل فِي تَأْوِيل قَوْله تَعَالَى : { لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْش } اِخْتَلَفَتْ الْقُرَّاء فِي قِرَاءَة and is it ilf ilaaf or alaaf , فَقَرَأَ ذَلِكَ عَامَّة قُرَّاء الْأَمْصَار بِيَاءٍ بَعْد هَمْز لِإِيلَافِ وَإِيلَافهمْ , سِوَى أَبِي جَعْفَر , فَإِنَّهُ وَافَقَ غَيْره فِي قَوْله { لِإِيلَافِ } فَقَرَأَهُ بِيَاءٍ بَعْد هَمْزَة , وَاخْتُلِفَ عَنْهُ فِي قَوْله { إِيلَافهمْ } فَرُوِيَ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأهُ : " إِلْفهمْ " عَلَى أَنَّهُ مَصْدَر مِنْ أَلِفَ يَأْلَف إِلْفًا , بِغَيْرِ يَاء . وَلِلْعَرَبِ فِي ذَلِكَ لُغَتَانِ : آلَفْت , وَأَلِفْت ; فَمَنْ قَالَ : آلَفْت بِمَدِّ الْأَلِف قَالَ : فَأَنَا أُؤَالِف إِيلَافًا ; وَمَنْ قَالَ : أَلِفْت بِقَصْرِ الْأَلِف قَالَ : فَأَنَا آلِف إِلْفًا , وَهُوَ رَجُل آلِف إِلْفًا so which one is it our dear Amin? and as for the the li before the word no one had a clue and is it an 'expression of surprise" or does it mean "for" and indeed this is one of the most celebrated words that have no meaning in the Qur'an As for the meaning of the word no one has a clue but this did not stop the masorites from guessing and what a disaster For the readers: why were the ulama in the 3rd century of Islam when al-Tabari wrote his exegesis not able to agree about the reading of such word or even agree on its meaning and this is a word in a book the Qur'an that is that claims to be kitab mubeen or clear book written in pure Arabic! Some one is a liar here this very simple example can mean: 1. That the Quranic material pre-dates Muhammad and by the time of him receiving his so called revelations no one had a clue what this very strange word really means but this would detach Muhammad from the Qur'an 2. Or that the Quranic logias and pericopes were not canonized until the 3rd century of islam when al-Tabari was writing his exegesis but by then the meaning of the word was lost and this would detach Islam from al-Hijaz 3. It also means that we really do not know what the Qur'an really says What a disaster Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
