I Wonder What This Button Does?Reader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by orange yonason (United States), Jun 26, 2007 at 14:15 BS"D As Dr. Pipes says, ". . . the knighting, announced June 16, was done without heed of its implications." Real leaders anticipate the consequences of their actions and are prepared to deal with all contingencies. They also do things based on long term strategies, and regardless of their popularity or degree of difficulty. And the best of them do what is so anathema today, which is to keep their actions consistant with the minimal requirements of a fixed and universally acknowledged transcendent morality. If one defines a "leader" by the degree to which one actually leads, then it would seem that the world is currently leadership impoverished.
