We have more freedom of expression than you think, Imdad AliReader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by Jeff (United States), Jun 28, 2007 at 18:47 Mr. Ali, "Indeed, Salman Rushdie is awarded knighthood on his notorious work ‘Satanic Verses". You don't think his being an author of over 20 works of fiction could have anything to do with Rushdie's knighthood? He was only knighted for the one that offends you, right? Let's forget about all the others. You also said: "In West every body enjoys freedom of expression, but nobody is permitted to speak on Holocaust, because it injures sentiments of the Jews." This statement is quite inaccurate. In the USA, small fringe hate groups like the American Nazi party routinely deny the holocaust in parades, literature, on radio and television. They can spread their ridiculous lies anytime, anywhere. Yes, it's called freedom of expression. So let me be sure I understand you, as I've never read any of Salmon Rushdie's books. Somewhere in history, someone put millions of Muslims in camps and systematically murdered them, and Salmon Rushdie denies that. Do I have it right? That's what you mean by "the same approach is not adopted for Muslims?" There is enough literature that insults Catholics in the West to fill a very large library. Enough Catholic-bashing art to fill a museum. The Catholic religion is a favorite target of comedians. And, yet, no riots. The Pope has not commanded Catholics to murder anyone. Why do you think that is? Almost as though murder is against the Catholic religion. Maybe that's enough reason for you to make fun of Catholics, too. Who so ever vent out his anger and anguish against Salman Rushdie, he is dubbed as a good Muslim.
