The Queen, Rushdie and another eraReader comment on item: Salman Rushdie and British Backbone Submitted by gary fouse (United States), Jun 27, 2007 at 23:56 Those who know history will remember when the UK had a PM named Neville Chamberlain, who thought he could reach accords with Hitler and achieve "peace in our time". With international terrorism, Iran etc, it is 1938 all over again. Have we not learned that you cannot appease evil? Ms O'Neill and Mr Manning are so afraid that they will further offend the Muslim world by standing up to the terrorists and defending freedom and free speech. I would advise them to read the history of Hitler, the Third Reich and the events between 1933-1939 leading up to WW 2. Read how weakness on the part of the UK and France allowed Hitler to become so powerful until he finally invaded Poland. Then the scales finally fell from their eyes. Only then did they listen to Winston Churchhill, a truly great leader. When will the scales fall from your eyes, Ms O'Neill and Mr Manning?
